Chief Medical Officer Lokesh Shahani, MD, MPH, and Executive Director Jair C. Soares, MD, PhD, are leaders of the John S. Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center at UTHealth Houston. Part of the UTHealth Houston Behavioral Sciences Campus and the largest academic psychiatric hospital in the country, the center combines the most advanced patient care, research, and education to serve patient populations in Houston and beyond.

Mission

As a comprehensive health science university, the mission of UTHealth Houston is to educate health science professionals, discover and translate advances in the biomedical and social sciences, and model the best practices in clinical care and public health.

  • Community Presence

    • Students, faculty, and staff from UT Physicians and all six UTHealth Houston schools participate in local events such as the Houston Pride Parade, American Heart Association Heart Walk, and Walk to End Alzheimer’s; are involved in the Texas Medical Center’s annual career expo for veterans; and assist with disaster relief in the wake of hurricanes and other natural disasters.
    • UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry and Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston partner with community organizations to provide dental and medical services to veterans in their annual ‘Give Vets a Smile’ campaign. In addition, the School of Dentistry teams with local school organizations to provide dental services to elementary students in underserved communities.
    • UTHealth Houston and UT Physicians have served as the title sponsor since 2020 for the annual Houston Habitat for Humanity home build, with volunteers giving back to the community by helping to build a new home for a deserving family.
