Blake Hanson

Blake Hanson, PhD

Dr. Hanson received an MS and PhD in Epidemiology from the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine with Dr. George Weinstock, receiving the prestigious JAX Scholar fellowship. Dr. Hanson is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology, Human Genetics and Environmental Sciences in the School of Public Health, and the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, and serves as the Associate Director of Microbial Genomics in CARMiG.

Dr. Hanson’s research interests are in infectious disease transmission and colonization, how microbial communities impact the development of disease, and how antimicrobial resistance develops and transmits through society. He uses a combination of existing and innovative laboratory techniques, and cutting-edge sequencing and bioinformatics within his lab’s research.
