Key Control and Replacement Procedures

  • University Housing residents are issued keys for the front door and the mailbox upon move-in.  Residents of Phase I only are also issued a key to their exterior storage closet door. University Housing utilizes grade two commercial locks for the front doors, which cannot be duplicated by anyone other than the UT locksmith. Because of this provision, one front door key per adult on the lease is issued. One storage room key (Phase I only) and one mailbox key is issued per apartment since duplication of these keys is not prohibited.
  • If a resident is locked out of their apartment during normal working hours, the resident should visit the Leasing Office and sign out a temporary replacement key. If a resident is locked out during times when the Leasing Office is closed, they should go to the Guardhouse and a UTPD officer would be dispatched to unlock their door, provided they are listed as a current resident on file.
  • University Housing will check out one front door key to a visitor for up to two weeks.  The visitor must visit the Leasing Office with the resident and sign out the loaner key.  The resident is responsible for returning the loaner key at the end of the two week loan period.
  • There is a charge for re-keying of locks, and replacement of keys.

Parking Tag Control and Replacement Procedures

  •  Parking hang tags issued through the Leasing Office offer automated entrance into the property through the resident entrance side (right side) of the drive at the guardhouse.
  • Parking hang tags are only issued to occupants listed on a lease at University Housing.  Boyfriends, girlfriends, family members or any other individual who are not listed on the lease at University Housing will be required to enter the property through the visitor entrance side at the guardhouse each time they visit the property.
  • To obtain a parking hang tag, residents are required to produce a valid registration in their name for each vehicle they are requesting a parking tag for. If the vehicle is not registered in the name of the leaseholder, a parking tag will not be issued.
  • There is a charge for replacement of lost or stolen parking tags.
