Many Faces of UTHealth: Tracy McGrady still has game, thanks to our doctors

Tracy McGrady entered the NBA straight from high school at the age of 18, a feat only a handful of players had been able to do previously. Teams were excited about his skills, basketball IQ and youth, but because of back problems, he was only projected to play four to five years. His health was a major concern for teams, except one – the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors picked McGrady ninth overall in the first round of the 1997 NBA draft and his dreams were finally realized.

For the eighth time, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) has been recognized as a Top Workplace, according to a survey published in the Nov. 5 issue of the Houston Chronicle.

Kent wins 2017 Impact Award for Naturally Slim

Early in 2017, Christine Kent, nurse manager in the Department of Internal medicine’s oncology division at McGovern Medical School, had a rapid weight gain of 10 pounds and suddenly began experiencing high blood pressure. She was placed on a medication for hypertension and knew she needed to make some healthy changes in her life.

“I knew I needed to lose around 40 pounds to be at a healthy BMI, but that seemed like an unattainable goal,” said Kent. Kent had just finished an unsuccessful diet plan when she received a post card in the mail from The University of Texas System about the Naturally Slim program. “I think they sent it to many members, but I felt that they somehow knew that I needed it.”
