Scholarships and Fellowships

Trained to look beyond diagnosis and treatment, faculty and students at Cizik School of Nursing focus on the whole person. As nurses shoulder an increasing amount of responsibility in the nation’s health care system, our school is committed to educating the next generation of nursing leaders.

Today, the students and fellows of Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth are passionate and committed learners. Tomorrow, they are our nurses. Our nurse practitioners. The nurse-scientists whose work will help solve our world’s toughest health challenges.

Scholarships and Fellowships

Our nation is facing a nursing shortage that will only grow as more than 25% of nurses in the workforce reach retirement within the next 10 years. This shortage will lead to a significant loss in nursing knowledge and expertise. Through our undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and postgraduate programs, Cizik School of Nursing is training tomorrow’s nursing leaders who will fill this gap in care and education.

From first-year undergraduate students learning the effects of disease on the body to postdoctoral fellows specializing in nursing research, we are dedicated to meeting the needs of every student. Our flexible programming and initiatives like our Veterans’ Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Pacesetter programs help our students enter the workforce more quickly.

However, many students struggle to afford the expenses of school, leaving aspiring nurses without the means to pursue their dreams and current nurses without the funds to pursue specialized training. Scholarships and fellowships allow Cizik School of Nursing to attract the brightest minds to improve health in our communities long into the future.

Your support of Many Faces. One Mission. can send a ripple effect through our communities by creating opportunities for our nursing students to acquire the expertise and knowledge to make major impacts on the treatment of diseases.

  • "I am sincerely grateful for the scholarship I received. I plan to become a labor and delivery nurse and eventually go back to school to become a nurse practitioner and a certified nurse midwife. Someday, I would love to serve women and children in vulnerable communities. This scholarship is instrumental in helping me realize my full academic and professional potential, and I am profoundly grateful to donors for the opportunities their generosity provides to students like me."

  • Scholarships

Establishing a scholarship fund will support nursing students as they learn how to provide outstanding care across the continuum of life and go on to enhance health in our communities for years to come. Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, financial need, or other factors in accordance with a donor’s wishes. In particular, scholarships for our doctoral students will help prepare the next generation of nurse educators.

  • Fellowships

A fellowship can support graduate nursing students and postdoctoral research fellows as they pursue specialized training. These valuable funds help develop tomorrow’s leaders in nursing practice, education, and research by providing them with the resources to support their continued education.
