Members of the Media Relations Team are available 24/7 to help journalists develop story ideas, identify the best news sources and arrange interviews on topics including innovative patient care, cutting-edge research and breaking news in health care. Meredith Raine – Executive Director of Public Affairs
As the executive director of Public Affairs, Meredith Raine leads the strategy for telling the stories of UTHealth, its people and its programs. She serves as the chief communications officer and oversees the Public Affairs program including branding and creative services, internal and external communications, media relations, and multimedia.
Since 2001, Raine has worked collaboratively with the administration, schools, clinics and primary teaching hospitals to increase awareness of UTHealth and strengthen its brand. She serves as a first responder for emergency communication and also supports the university’s marketing initiatives.
Before coming to UTHealth, Raine was an award-winning journalist who reported for newspapers in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Texas. She is a graduate of West Virginia University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Additionally, she is the 2018-2019 president of the Medically Speaking Toastmasters Club in the Texas Medical Center.
Deborah Mann Lake – Media Relations Manager

Deborah Mann Lake spent two decades writing for Texas newspapers including the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, The Houston Post and the Houston Chronicle, where she was the correspondent for its weekly "Health/Medicine" page. She has won awards from the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors, the Houston Press Club and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Deborah joined Public Affairs in 2006.
Andy Heger - Communications Manager

Andy Heger joined UTHealth in August 2011. He is editor-in-chief of HealthLEADER, the university’s award-winning online wellness magazine. Andy also helps administer university social media sites, produces videos and leads publicity efforts for education and child development at the Children’s Learning Institute as well as news for the Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the UTHealth Medical School. In addition to several years as a news reporter, Andy has more than 10 years of experience in marketing and communications.
Rob Cahill - Senior Media Relations Specialist

Rob Cahill is your contact for news about advances in medical research and patient care. He can arrange interviews with scientists in genetics, biomedical informatics and other fields of medicine. He can also put you in touch with clinicians in the areas of surgery and internal medicine. He formerly served as a daily newspaper reporter at the Laredo News and San Antonio Light. He has a master’s degree in communications and was twice named Communicator of the Year by the Houston Press Club.
Victoria Tagg – Media Relations Specialist

Victoria Tagg is your contact for news about public health matters, infectious diseases, neurology, neurosurgery, pediatric cardiology and pediatric complex care. She formerly worked for various daily newspapers in the U.K., where she was an award-winning reporter, before becoming a public relations specialist. After serving as head of public relations at Avon and Somerset Police in Bristol, she was communications lead at Swindon Borough Council in Wiltshire, where she managed external and internal communications for public health, children services and adult social care. Victoria graduated with honors from Bristol University.
