HOUSTON – (Nov. 7, 2016) – For the seventh time, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) has been recognized as a “Top Workplace,” according to a survey published in the Nov. 6 issue of the Houston Chronicle.
“I am thankful that our faculty and staff continue to rate UTHealth so highly,” said Giuseppe N. Colasurdo, M.D., president of UTHealth. “Being selected as a Top Workplace is one of the highest accolades we can receive. Being selected for seven consecutive years is a tremendous honor that speaks to the quality of our people and our culture.”
UTHealth was ranked No. 23 in the Large Company category (organizations with 500 or more local employees). UTHealth was the highest-ranked institution of higher education in the category. Among health care institutions in our category, only Memorial Hermann Health System ranked higher than UTHealth.
The survey is based entirely on employee feedback and measured four factors: alignment, connection, effectiveness and manager.
When compared to peer institutions, UTHealth showed the greatest strength for the following statements:
- UTHealth operates by strong values and ethics
- There is good inter-departmental cooperation at UTHealth
- UTHealth encourages different points of view
- New ideas are encouraged at UTHealth
- UTHealth enables me to work at my full potential
- My job makes me feel like I am part of something meaningful
The feedback UTHealth receives through the survey has helped shaped a number of employee development programs, most recently, the establishment of UTHealth’s Leadership Institutes and Women in Leadership Seminar Series. Through these programs and others, UTHealth continues to invest in its students, faculty and staff and their personal and professional development.
“I am thankful that our faculty and staff continue to provide specific, actionable feedback through this survey and other communications vehicles,” said Eric Fernette, vice president for human resources. “Their trust and candor are deeply appreciated and allow the leadership to develop programs that ensure the best possible environment for employees, students and our patients. We thank them for their trust and for making UTHealth a Top Workplace.”
