David Johnson, PhD, named 2021 Oldham Faculty Awardee

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences faculty member David Johnson, PhD, was named the 2021 recipient of the D. Dudley and Judy White Oldham Faculty Award.

Johnson is a professor in the Department of Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis at MD Anderson. At the Graduate School, he is affiliated with the Program in Genetics and Epigenetics. His research focuses on E2F transcription factors and their roles in regulating cell cycle progression, DNA repair and tumor development.

Johnson joined the Graduate School faculty in 1997 and served as GSBS faculty president from 2015-2016. In 2002, he received the Faculty Scholar Award from MD Anderson and in 2019 was recognized by the president of MD Anderson with the Faculty Excellence Award in Education and Mentoring Advancement.

“It is an honor to receive this award from the GSBS for my small part in helping to train the next generation of biomedical scientists.” said Johnson.

The Oldham award was established in 2018 by D. Dudley and Judy White Oldham to recognize an exceptional faculty member who consistently demonstrates excellence in service and leadership. The recipient receives a $4,000 cash prize and a commemorative plaque.
