Wellness Committee launches Midday Meditation initiative

Relax and let go. Those are the kinds of opportunities the Wellness Committee at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry hopes to provide for faculty, staff, students, and residents with its Midday Meditation initiative which kicked off in June.

Offered in short, 30-minute sessions, the monthly meditations are open to all UTHealth faculty, staff, students, and residents. For more information about upcoming sessions, contact Lauren Moran.

During the inaugural Midday Meditation, held June 15 via Cisco Webex, Alejandro Chaoul, PhD, Huffington Foundation Endowed Director of the Mind Body Spirit Institute at the Jung Center of Houston, shared his new approach for helping health care professionals flourish by reducing stress and burnout, and improving health, resilience, and nourishment for the human spirit.

Participants sat in a seated posture, some with their web cameras on and some with them off, and went through a focused, deep-breathing exercise guided by Chaoul, who holds an adjunct faculty position at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth.
