(July 15, 2020) Two Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth assistant professors have been honored with bronze awards from the Good Samaritan Foundation through its 2020 Excellence in Nursing program.

Representing the Cizik School of Nursing among this year’s winners in the Nursing Education:  Faculty category are Nurse Anesthesia Program faculty member Deniz Dishman, PhD, DNAP, CRNA, CHSE; and Family Nurse Practitioner track co-coordinator Mitzy Kobeissi, DNP, RN, FNP-C.

“Congratulations to these two outstanding faculty members on being recognized by their peers as being among the state’s best nurse educators,” said Diane Santa Maria, DrPH, RN, FAAN, the school’s interim dean.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has left in question the foundation’s annual Excellence in Nursing luncheon, which is scheduled for October, the organization continues to recognize the women and men who are actively working in the nursing profession. Honorees are nominated by their peers and selected by a distinguished selection committee. These nurses demonstrate a passion for the nursing profession and exemplify excellence in teaching, mentoring, leadership, and service.

Dr. Dishman joined the Cizik School of Nursing in July 2016 and also practices as a CRNA with U.S. Anesthesia Partners at CHI St. Luke’s Health - Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. She earned her PhD and DNAP from Virginia Commonwealth University, her MSN from Columbia University, and her BSN from Molloy College.

Dr. Kobeissi has been teaching at Cizik School of Nursing since Spring 2018 and operates her own concierge telehealth care practice. She returned to the school after earning her DNP and her MSN here. She received her BSN from Houston Baptist University.
