Ramirez recognized by AANP as Texas nurse practitioner advocate for 2019

(Jan. 24, 2019) – Elda G. Ramirez, Ph.D., R.N., professor in Cizik School of Nursing’s Department of Graduate Studies, is the Texas recipient of the 2019 American Association of Nurse Practitioners State Award for Nurse Practitioner Advocate Excellence. This prestigious award, founded in 1993, is given annually to a dedicated individual in each state who has made a significant contribution toward increasing awareness and recognition of the nurse practitioner role.

Ramirez and the other state recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony and reception during the AANP’s national conference, June 18-23, in Indianapolis, Ind.

She recently participated in a media event with Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, representing the perspective and concerns of the public health community and emergency nursing, which was aired Jan. 22 on C-SPAN (her part starts at 07:31 of the online video).  In Washington, D.C,, the organization released and discussed the 2019 Roadmap of State Highway Safety Laws, ranking all 50 states and the District of Columbia on passage of 16 essential traffic safety laws. “Best & Worst” states for enacting optimal laws were identified. (Texas appeared on neither list).

A Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP), Ramirez has received over one million dollars in funding from the State of Texas to educate nurse practitioners in the specialty of emergency care. She also has founded the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners (AAENP).
