Cost of Attendance

The Cost of Attendance (COA) is the ESTIMATED cost of a student’s educational and living expenses for the period of enrollment. It includes tuition, fees, room and board, books/supplies, transportation, loan fees and personal/miscellaneous expenses. The COA is used to determine a student’s financial aid eligibility and award package. Federal, state, institutional and other resources cannot exceed the cost of attendance.

The estimated Cost of Attendance is based on a 12- month budget. For programs less than 12 months, the budget is bases on period of enrollment,

How Cost of Attendance is Calculated

Tuition and Fees: the average cost of tuition and fees for a student in the program; the actual cost will vary depending on the amount of hours the student is enrolled in. For actual cost, please refer to the Registrar’s Office Tuition and Fee Schedule (https://www.uth.edu/registrar/current-students/registration/tuition--fee-schedule.htm)

Books and Supplies: the average cost of books and supplies for the award year

Room and Board: a suitable estimate of the cost to live in the area while attending school

Transportation: a suitable estimate it cost to travel to school from the student’s home or work

Personal and Miscellaneous: a suitable estimate of personal and miscellaneous expenses incurred to attend school

Loan Fees: the average fee it cost of issuing the loan

Adjustments to Cost of Attendance

Students sometimes incur unexpected expenses that are not included in the Cost of Attendance. Adjustments to the COA for certain expenses (please refer to the Revision Request Form) can increase the cost of attendance allowing students to obtain additional financial aid. The most common expense is the computer purchase, a one-time budget increase. Adjustments will be considered on a case by case basis and will require documentation to justify the revision.
