Eligibility status for group insurance programs

I. POLICY AND GENERAL STATEMENT
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston determines an individual's eligibility status for benefits based on the percentage of time appointed and the type of appointment (regular, part time, temporary, casual, or student-appointee). Refer to HOOP Policy 17 Appointment Status for definitions of these appointments.
Regular employees are eligible to participate in all group insurance programs offered by The University of Texas System. Regular employees are appointed for a period of at least four and one-half consecutive months with a definite job assignment that must be 50 percent time or more. See HOOP Policy 17 Appointment Status.
Student appointments of four and one-half months or more and 50 percent time or greater are eligible to participate in the group insurance program.
