Alumna Meisa Keivani, DDS ’20, MS ’23, of UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry was awarded first place in the American College of Prosthodontists’ John J. Sharry Prosthodontic Research Competition.

The John J. Sharry Prosthodontic Research Competition is held to stimulate and acknowledge original research in prosthodontics by residents.

Keivani, who was one of six finalists, presented her master’s thesis on “Assessment of Passive Fit of Implant Supported Zirconia Prosthesis in a Fully Digital Workflow with Photogrammetry: An In Vitro Study.” The national competition, sponsored by the ACP Education Foundation, occurred on Nov. 8 during the 2024 ACP Annual Session at the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort in Florida.

She wrote in her abstract that, within the limitation of her study, “digital workflow with the intraoral scanner for fabrication of full arch zirconia bridge with direct connection to multi-unit abutments does not produce clinically acceptable outcome. Digital workflow with stereophotogrammetry system appears to produce a clinically acceptable outcome regardless of the design of the prosthesis, with the interface of the prosthesis to be zirconia direct to multi-unit or with universal bases (or titanium bases).”

A two-time alumna of the School of Dentistry, Keivani received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2020 before completing the Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics in 2023. Before dental school, she earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Biochemistry in 2015.

Keivani is currently practicing prosthodontist at Dental Solutions of Binghamton in Johnson City, New York.

The John J. Sharry Prosthodontic Research Competition brings together the best and brightest in prosthodontics, with participants consisting of residents and recent graduates of prosthodontic programs.

To be eligible for the competition, individuals must be enrolled in a postdoctoral prosthodontic program or have completed such a program in the last three years and be a member, in good standing, of the ACP.
