When UTHealth Houston staff, faculty, or students need to call the IT Solution Center — also known as the “Help Desk” — the highly skilled people who answer those calls do not work for a vendor or happen to be in another country. They are all full-time UTHealth Houston employees who are dedicated call responders, working together to get computers or mobile devices up and running again.

The university’s IT Solution Center consists of 11 individuals, and they operate the call center from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. They pride themselves on being available beyond regular business hours in order to serve everyone within the UTHealth Houston community.

Meet David Posado, manager of the IT Solution Center

Born in Laredo, Texas, Posado has spent most of his life in Houston. He graduated from Memorial High School and holds a business degree from the University of Phoenix.

Posado recently reached the 30-year employee milestone at UTHealth Houston, after beginning his career here as a file clerk at the School of Dentistry bookstore. He has been in charge of the IT Solution Center since 2010 and has heard just about everything from callers, over the years.

“The funniest calls are from people at other institutions with our similar initials (UT), like the University of Tennessee,” Posado said. “I explain to them that yes, we are an IT support desk, and that I’m happy to try to help them with their issue. But they usually hang up.

“I really enjoy helping our community with their needs and knowing that we are delivering quality health care while helping the next generation of health care providers.”

One of Posado’s favorite positions prior to joining UTHealth Houston was as a security guard at a club that hosted music acts and bands, along with boxing and wrestling matches.

“I was once asked to fill in for a wrestler, but I politely declined the opportunity,” he said.

Posado is married to Sofia and has four children — Wendell, 22; David, 21; Téa, 19; and Anthony, 10 — who all live in the Houston area. David’s mother, Maria, used to work for UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry in radiology, and his sister, Cecilia Garza, is a senior support assistant with oral pathology at the School of Dentistry.

Posado enjoys helping with Anthony’s Boy Scouts den and pack, coaching his flag football team, and volunteering at church.
