School of Dentistry hosts foreign dental dean, faculty

UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry hosted Dean Chidchanok Leethanakul, DDS, MSc, PhD; and Panomwat Amornphimoltham, DDS, PhD, of the Faculty of Dentistry, Prince of Songkla University in Hat Yai, Thailand, in mid-January.

UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry has an agreement with the Prince of Songkla University as part of the International Scholarship Training Program (ISTP).

Leethanakul and Amornphimoltham visited with UTHealth Houston Senior Vice President for Academic and Faculty Affairs Kevin Morano, PhD, on Thursday, Jan. 19, and School of Dentistry Dean John A. Valenza, DDS, on Friday, Jan. 20. The pair were escorted by Sudarat Kiat-amnuay, DDS, MS, ISTP faculty leader; and Robert Spears, PhD, MS, associate dean for student and academic affairs.

The ISTP allows one to two residents per year to be recruited from candidates who obtain scholarships from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and/or Thailand, through an undersigned official agreement of cooperation and program agreement between UTHealth Houston and the Kuwait Ministry of Health, Saudi Arabia Cultural Mission, or Thailand Office of Educational Affairs.

The Faculty of Dentistry, Prince of Songkla University, established in 1983, is the first dental school established in the southern region of Thailand and is located in the prestigious PSU Health Sciences Centre, the largest medical complex in the region.
