School of Public Health announces public health certificate partnership with the University of Texas Permian Basin
Both schools are working to meet the public health needs of the Permian Basin community through education programs
UTHealth School of Public Health and the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) College of Business have partnered to provide graduate students with the opportunity to earn a Graduate Certificate in Public Health while simultaneously earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) beginning Spring 2020. This program will be available online and will allow students to earn both degree and certificate in 46 credits rather than 52, which equates to about five semesters.
Dr. William Fannin, professor at the UTPB College of Business and program coordinator, approached UTHealth School of Public Health about the partnership after seeing an interest in public health and healthcare administration among students. “This degree program marks the first time we’ve paired a certificate with a Masters of Business Administration,” says Robert Hammarberg, Manager of Academic Affairs at UTHealth School of Public Health and program coordinator.
This combined program will meet the needs of those seeking managerial careers in public health or health services. The MBA program at UTPB provides the essential professional tools to advance graduates into managerial careers, while the Graduate Certificate in Public Health can provide individuals already working in the health and medical industries with a better understanding of how public health intersects with business and workforce needs.
