The UTHealth Houston community gathered June 24 at TMC Helix Park for Uniting Through Creativity, a faculty art exhibition curated by Laura Spector, artist-in-residence at the John P. McGovern, MD, Center for Humanities and Ethics.

Hosted by the UTHealth Houston Office of Faculty Affairs and Development in partnership with the McGovern Center, the event showcased artwork from faculty across the institution.

Organizers said the exhibit highlighted the role of artistic expression and the humanities in supporting well-being and fostering a sense of connection.

“Art reminds us that we are more than what we do or produce,” Spector said. “In the midst of packed schedules and clinical routines, the humanities offer a necessary pause — an opportunity to reflect, connect, and remember what makes us human.”

The event underscored UTHealth Houston’s commitment to faculty well-being and the role creativity plays in building community.

Lisa D. Cain, PhD, associate vice president of faculty affairs and development at UTHealth Houston and professor at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, noted, “It’s a method of supporting humanism, well-being, and connectivity among individuals.”

Guests explored visual art from photography to mixed media, all while enjoying refreshments and discussing the pieces.
