GSBS Associate Dean Eric Swindell leaving in April

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences announces the departure of Associate Dean of Graduate Education Eric C. Swindell, PhD, who will be leaving April 16 to accept a position as the associate dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine.

Swindell received his BS in microbiology from The University of Texas at Austin and his PhD from the Biochemistry Program at Baylor College of Medicine. Following postdoctoral training at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Baylor College of Medicine, Swindell joined the McGovern Medical School faculty as an assistant professor in 2008.

In 2015, he joined the Graduate School as assistant dean of graduate education. In this role, Swindell directed the Foundations of Biomedical Research class, commonly referred to as the Core Course – a 14-week course that gives incoming first-year students a foundation of science and research skills to help them succeed in their individual programs. He also provided oversight for GSBS Curriculum, the GSBS scientific writing course and the MS Program in biomedical sciences.

In 2018, Swindell was promoted to associate dean and assumed responsibility for managing the GSBS Office of Admissions and GSBS accreditation efforts, while continuing his previous responsibilities.

"It has been a pleasure to work with Eric and I appreciate the commitment he has shown to enhancing the education of our students," said GSBS Dean Mike Blackburn, PhD. "I wish him all the best in his new position."

“It has truly been an honor to be a part of the GSBS for the past five years,” said Swindell. “Working with such extraordinary students, faculty and staff has been the highlight of my career and I will always be thankful for the experiences and relationships developed during my time here. I look forward to following the future successes of everyone at GSBS."
