Occupational Health Field Trip to Houston Fire Department

As part of the Occupational Health Field Trips (PH 2260) course, students in the Industrial Hygiene (IH) and Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM) training programs recently visited the Houston Fire Department (HFD). Starting at HFD Station 33 in the Texas Medical Center, students learned about firefighters’ daily routines and working environments. They later traveled to the Val Jahnke Training Facility, where both new and experienced firefighters take part in regular training. The tours were given by Chief Michael Marino and Captain Gabe Dominguez, who shared the occupational challenges faced by HFD firefighters.
The Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health would like to thank the Houston Fire Department for their continued support of our educational training programs and their partnership in various research efforts!
The Occupational Health Field Trips (PH 2260) course teaches students to analyze work processes and recognize possible health hazards on the job. This course is taught by Brett Perkison, MD, MPH, OEM Program Director, and Jooyeon Hwang, PhD IH Program Director.
