QS student Sunyi Chi wins award from ASA Biometrics Section

Sunyi Chi, a PhD student affiliated with the GSBS Program in Quantitative Sciences, was selected to receive an American Statistical Association (ASA) Biometrics Section Early Career/Student Paper Award. The biometrics section is affiliated with the ASA, the world’s largest community of statisticians and second oldest, continuously operating professional society in the U.S.

Chi’s research “Mediation analysis of survival outcome and high-dimensional omics mediators with application to complex diseases” was one of the awarded papers selected from over 120 submissions.

“It is my honor to receive this award, says Chi. “I am sincerely grateful for the ASA Biometrics Section and members of the scientific community recognizing my work, I could not have achieved this accomplishment without the great support of my advisors Dr. Wei and Dr. Huang, my mentoring team, and the GSBS QS Program."

Chi and the other awardees will present their research at the ASA 2022 Joint Statistical Meetings in August. Her advisors are Peng Wei, PhD, and Xuelin Huang, PhD. She was also selected to receive one of the 2022 Distinguished Student Paper Awards, presented by the Eastern North American Region (ENAR) of the International Biometric Society for the same research work.
