The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now 9-8-8 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline

988 is the 3-digit dialing code for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, where compassionate, accessible care and support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone experiencing mental health-related distress. Thoughts of suicide, mental health, substance use crisis, or any other kind of emotional distress, including loneliness, are some of the reasons to talk to a local, trained crisis worker. Calls and texts to 988 are free and confidential. Additionally, there is the ability to webchat online.

The Lifeline also includes a dedicated Veterans Crisis Line, options for deaf and hard of hearing, and Spanish language speakers ready to assist

The goals for the Lifeline are to:

  • Provide immediate, confidential counseling to someone in distress;
  • De-escalate suicidal or distressed thoughts; and
  • Connect people with local resources, when appropriate.

If you or someone you know needs support now, call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org or 2-STOP (792-7867) for help.

Always call 911 if you are in immediate danger.
