“I started my career path at UT in the Department of Pediatrics with the Genetic Counselors. I really enjoyed working with all the students in that program. It was even more exciting to see them achieve their goal and complete the program with their MS Degree. Although I was employed through the Pediatric department, I was also able to assist a great group of OBGYN Genetic Counselors.
I am currently an Executive Assistant to the Professor and Chairman of the Louis A. Faillace, MD Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. This has been a stimulating career advancement. I don’t work directly with the department’s educational program but am grateful for the opportunity to assist with faculty recruiting. The faculty and staff we currently have and recruit are top-notch! I’m looking forward to the expansion of services the faculty will be able to provide to the community with the opening of the new hospital.”
Telisha joined UCSC after a fellow member suggested she look more into the council. “I was kind of ‘volun-told’ to join so I could learn more of the inner networks at the university. I have enjoyed the UCSC and it did prove to be insightful. My first committee served on was the Elections Committee. I am now serving a second term on the Educational Awards Committee.”
When Telisha is not working, she enjoys maximizing time with family. “I’ve been married for 12 years to my husband Duanne. We have two little green peas, Kennadi (10) and Duanne II (8). He does not like to be called Junior (😊). Both have goals of entering the Field of Engineering, Structural and Biomedical, respectively.”
As far as leisurely pursuits and pets go, Telisha notes what is most important to her. “I just love to have FUN. I have a very large family so there’s always something exciting to be part of at any given time. We have pretty blue beta fish names Remy whom we’ve had for a little more than 2 years. My parents have 2 horses which the kids have claimed as their own.”
