UTHealth Houston ranks No. 2 in Texas in the 2022 America’s Best Employers by State, according to Forbes.

“This designation by Forbes as one of the best employers in the country is a tremendous honor and a testament to the incredible people who comprise the UTHealth Houston community,” said Giuseppe N. Colasurdo, MD, UTHealth Houston president and Alkek-Williams Distinguished Chair. “We are immensely proud of our remarkable students, faculty, and staff members, who work collaboratively every day to improve health and health care for Houston, Texas, and beyond.”

UTHealth Houston ranked second in the state behind NASA.

To determine the rankings, Statista, Forbes’ market research partner, surveyed 70,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 500 employees. The surveys were anonymous, allowing participants to openly rate their employers on a variety of criteria, including safety of work environment, competitiveness of compensation, opportunities for advancement, and openness to telecommuting.

“The recognition speaks volumes about the people who make up our organization,” said Eric Fernette, UTHealth Houston vice president and chief human resources officer. “Our community’s resilience during times of change has allowed the organization to continue moving the mission forward through innovative clinical, research, and academic practices.”

In addition to honoring teams across UTHealth Houston, the Forbes designation will also support future growth and the recruitment of new health care leaders to the university’s faculty and staff.

“It’s rewarding that the university is recognized as a statewide leader,” said Melissa Jackson, executive director of talent acquisition. “This honor makes a noticeable impact in the recruiting process, and it carries a lot of weight for us. It is a factor in future applicants’ decision-making processes, and it serves as part of the cumulative package that UTHealth Houston offers prospective and current team members.”

UTHealth Houston focuses on improving organizational culture and engaging employees with resources and programs that empower them to achieve career and personal goals.
