7:45 AM - 5:00 PM
Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center (View in Google Map)
Elderly patients with mental illness often present unique and complex cases that require integrated care delivered by knowledgeable and specialized health care professionals. This daylong symposium is designed to provide mental health clinicians, geriatricians and other caregivers of older adults a comprehensive guide of the most recent advances in research and clinical practice in the field of geriatric psychiatry. Topics focus on dementia and late-life depression, as well as the impact of caregiver burden on illness outcomes, practical strategies to prevent caregiver burnout and the assessment and intervention of abused or mistreated elders. Expert clinicians and researchers from multiple specialties, including psychiatry, neurology and gerontology, will offer interdisciplinary perspectives and insights into geriatric care. Attendees will gain valuable knowledge that can be applied in clinical settings, thus improving mental health treatment and overall health care for older adults in the Houston community.
All clinicians, including psychiatrists, geriatricians, psychologists, nurses practitioners, social workers and other caregivers of older adults, are invited to attend. Residents, medical students, nursing students and other trainees are also encouraged to join. This continuing education program provides 7.00 CME credits, psychology CE credits and contact hours for nurses and social workers.
