What is Employee Assistance Programs?

The EAP is a work-based program that assists and supports employees with who are navigating life issues or personal problems, and/or work-related issues that may impact their job performance and mental well-being. The EAP offers free and confidential assessments, counseling, and referrals for employees, and this generally extends to family members of that employee. This allows employees and family members to access convenient and confidential services with a licensed mental health professional at no cost. The EAP can address a broad and complex body of issues affecting mental and emotional well-being, such as alcohol and other substance use, stress, grief, family issues or other concerns. The EAP Counselors can also work in a consultative role with managers and supervisors to address employee and organizational challenges or needs.

While counseling services for short-term counseling are free, the EAP staff can also assist with helping the employee or their family member access community resources for specialized or extended services through their insurance policy, which may include deductibles or copays, or other charges.

EAP services are confidential and are not part of your employment record. UTEAP will not release any information regarding your contact with the EAP without your written consent or as required by law.
