For more than two decades, Andrew Casas has served as senior vice president of UTHealth Houston and chief operating officer of UT Physicians, the clinical practice of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

During his tenure, UT Physicians has grown exponentially from 450 providers to more than 2,400, nearly 2 million patient visits, and an estimated 3 million patient encounters each fiscal year. With rapid growth from two locations to more than 100 since 2010, the practice plan provides primary and specialty care across one of the largest networks of clinics in the Greater Houston area.

Under his leadership in 2020, UT Physicians ably pivoted to establish COVID-19 protocols to keep both patients and health care teams safe while providing essential care, whether in the clinic or virtually via telemedicine. Casas and his team, which was a collaborative effort across the university, organized and staffed a COVID-19 vaccine hub for the state of Texas. They also set up COVID-19 testing sites in multiple areas across the city, including underserved areas where residents were at the highest risk for severe illness. During that same time, the university also successfully launched a new electronic health record and patient survey system for its clinics and hospitals.

As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, UT Physicians provides a high level of care to people from around the world — all while providing funding to expand access to high-quality care and support the university’s mission in research and education.

Proudly a native Houstonian, Casas has devoted his career to serving the community and crediting the people around him for the continued success of UTHealth Houston and UT Physicians.

Casas has a degree in business administration from Trinity University.
