The UTHealth Houston Institute for Implementation Science aims to accelerate the use of evidence to improve population health in the real world. Implementation science is the key to closing the research-to-practice gap.
The ultimate impact of health innovations depends not only on their effectiveness but also on their reach in the population and the extent to which they are adopted, implemented, and maintained over time. Despite substantial advances in health innovations, a research-to-practice gap remains, limiting our ability to improve health and quality of life. In response, The UTHealth Houston Institute for Implementation Science was established to accelerate and improve the use of evidence to improve population health and to bridge the research-to-practice gap. The Institute goals include the following:
- Conduct cutting-edge implementation science research.
- Build new and strengthen existing partnerships across all UTHealth Houston Schools and UT System
- Develop a network of implementation science researchers
- Train and nurture the next generation of implementation scientists
- Develop implementation collaborative laboratories of engaged partners and stakeholders (clinic, schools, communities, etc) to support integration of evidence-based interventions, practices and policies into real-world settings.
- Advance the Institute’s operations, research, training, and practice through operational excellence.
UTHealth Houston faculty includes leading experts in implementation science. The Institute seeks to offer advanced training to health scientists and build a collaborative research network, positioning UTHealth Houston as a leader in this field.
