Arles María Urrutia Velásquez, MSc, PhD

Biography

Dr. Arlés Urrutia is a biologist with expertise in molecular biology and biochemistry. She has researched brain receptors during depression and immune cell aggregation in multiple sclerosis, using vertebrate animal models. Her recent work, spanning her Ph.D. and postdoctoral roles, focuses on the Caenorhabditis elegans model organism, investigating regenerative molecules produced by bacteria. She looks to apply bioinformatic tools to predict the intestinal microbiota balance, cross-feeding interactions, and patterns potentially triggering inflammatory illnesses in various tissues. Ph.D in Integrative Genomics at Universidad Mayor - Chile

Master in Biochemistry and Biomedicine in Autonomic University of Barcelona - Spain

Biology Degree; Universidad de Los Andes - Venezuela

Advisor

Danielle Garsin, PhD

Research Description

Her recent work, spanning her Ph.D. and postdoctoral roles, focuses on C. elegans, a model organism, investigating how intestinal bacteria produce neuroREgenerative molecules. She applies bioinformatic tools to predict the intestinal microbiota balance, cross-feeding interactions, and patterns potentially triggering inflammatory illnesses in various tissues.
