Planning process for the 2027-2037 Strategic Plan
At UTHealth Houston, we are developing our 10-year strategic plan through Future in Focus. This university-wide planning process is designed to drive innovation, expand access, and improve health across the communities we serve. Engaging all seven schools and our clinical, research, and education missions, Future in Focus is not a document handed down but a plan built together with voices across our university.

Our strategic plan is taking shape around four pillars: education, research, clinical care, and organizational excellence. As this work unfolds, we're focused on strengthening what matters most: the discovery, education, and care that define UTHealth Houston, now and in the years ahead.
Future in Focus is a rigorous, community-led planning process. It's not a rapid one-time exercise, but an ongoing engagement engine that feeds strategy continuously. From leadership interviews and university-wide surveys to town halls and external partner sessions, every step is designed to capture the full range of voices that make UTHealth Houston great.
UTHealth Houston is entering a pivotal moment in our history. As healthcare, research, and higher education continue to change at an ever-increasing pace, a strategic plan provides a clear direction for the future. This strategic plan will focus our efforts, strengthen our impact, and build on our successes. Through Future in Focus, we are creating a shared vision and executable blueprint that will guide decisions, investments, and opportunities across the health science center for years to come.
Through the Future in Focus process, our strategic plan is being co-authored by our entire university. Faculty, staff, students, and trainees across all seven schools, as well as representatives of our partner institutions, are shaping our shared direction through genuine dialogue, careful listening, and a commitment to building something that lasts.
We don’t wait for a finished plan to start building what’s next. Even as the full 10-year framework takes shape through Future in Focus, we are already moving on several Fast Track Initiatives. These priority areas were identified through early stakeholder engagement, and they run in parallel with the planning process. Because transformation doesn’t have to wait.
Future in Focus is a living process, not a document published once and then shelved. As we listen, analyze, and build, we’ll share what we’re learning with the full UTHealth Houston community through regular updates, town halls, and progress dashboards.
