Join Toastmasters, Gain Professional Development
UTHealth Houston has established the Toastmasters club: UTHealth Houston Speaks! All employees are encouraged to participate to learn professional skills to enhance career success and development.
Sandy Southern, president, Ruth Ramos, VP of public relations and Steve Jones, secretary and sergeant at arms, of the UTHealth Houston Speaks! club joined the UCSC general meeting in September to provide details and recruit new members. We learned that Toastmasters is more than public speaking. In fact, the website for Toastmasters International provides a list of eight different areas of growth one can get by joining:
- Improve public speaking skills
- Build leadership skills
- Maximize potential.
- Enjoy unlimited personal growth
- Work on networking in a small and supportive environment
- Practice writing speeches and presenting in a group setting
- Gain a competitive advantage in the workplace
- Build self-confidence and self-awareness
UTHealth Houston Speaks! meets virtually through Teams the first and third Tuesday at noon.
Currently, Toastmasters dues are $90 per year, plus a one-time $20 fee for new members. Toastmasters is supported by UTHealth Houston Human Resources and executive leadership, and there is an opportunity for the dues to be reimbursed.
