Strategic Priorities

The Office of Population Health’s strategic priorities were established in 2024 using an iterative strategic planning process. Our executive leadership interviewed over 40 key UTHealth Houston leaders, held listening sessions with the newly created UTHealth Houston/UT Physicians Population Health Council, and external stakeholders. The team reviewed the state and institution-wide strategic plans for population health. Conducted a local environment assessment and researched what was happening at the local, statewide, and national population health efforts.

We identified three strategic priority areas for the Office of Population Health:

  1. Elevate and promote existing population health research and practice at UTHealth Houston.
  2. Improve and enable population health research through improved infrastructure.
  3. Expand population health research and practice through collaboration.

The Population Health Council brainstormed and prioritized activities that would advance each of these priority areas. We plan to do the following in FY25-FY26:

  • Host a Population Health Symposium
  • Collaborate with University wide communications to get a Population Health feature in existing newsletters
  • Launch a Population Health Fellowship program
  • Create a centralized database on Pop Health work being done at UTHealth Houston, with the purpose of being able to identify collaborative opportunities with others with a common interest
  • Update the UTHealth Houston Population Health Strategic Plan
