The Biggest Loser

Benefitting the Houston Food Bank
6-week, self paced challenge to lose the highest percentage of weight.
Ready to tip the scale? All finishers earn a T-SHIRT!

Eligibility
Open to UTHealth Students + Rec Center Members

Challenge Dates
6 Weeks: 10/2 - 11/10
First Weigh In: Monday, 10/2 between 5:30AM - 2:30PM
Weekly Weigh In: Monday and Friday between 5:30AM - 2:30PM
Final Weigh In: Friday, 11/10 between 5:30AM - 2:30PM

Registration "Fee"
Includes: T-SHIRT for all finishers, motivation, accountability + award for The Biggest Loser
15 non-perishable food items due by first weigh—in.
Items will be donated to the Houston Food Bank.

Rules
Everyone must weigh in on the same scale!  Numbers are based on weight loss percentage.
First Weigh In = 15 Non-Perishable Food Items (Unless turned in at registration.)
Weekly Weigh In = 1 Non-Perishable Food Item per Week
Missed Weigh In = 2 Non-Perishable Food Items
No Weight Loss = 1 Non-Perishable Food Item
Weight Gain per Pound = 1 Non-Perishable Food Item per Pound

Awards
All finishers earn a T-SHIRT + The Biggest Loser wins their choice of:
1-Initial Consultation and Fitness Assessment
1-Month Rec Center Membership

Bench Press Competition

1-rep max competition to see who can put up the most weight!
Multiple categories available for weight and sex.
A Personal Trainer will spot for safety.

Eligibility
Open to All UTHealth Students + Current Rec Center Members
50 Participant Maximum
Spots are Limited to 50 Participants!

Competition Dates
Depending on the turn out, it should only take a few minutes!

Stop by anytime during one of these windows:
Tuesday, 10/17 from 12-1PM or 5-7PM
Wednesday, 10/18 from 12-1PM or 5-7PM

Includes: T-SHIRT for the first 50 finishers, SWEATSHIRT for Division Winners and friendly competition!

HeartCode Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals

American Heart Association Certification Course (Combination eLearning + In-Person)

Recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED + relieve choking safely.
Blended learning combination of self-directed eLearning (online portion) followed by a hands-on (in-person) session.
Online and in-person sessions require separate fees and registrations.
Certification by American Heart Associated is valid for 2 years upon successful completion of course.

Eligibility
Open to UTHealth Students, Rec Center Members, All Other TMC Institutions + UT System Alumni

Dates
Offered the 2nd Tuesday of Every Month:
September 12th
October 10th
November 14th
December 12th

*Minimum # of participants must be met the Friday prior to class.

Times
12:00 - 1:00PM (For up to 6 participants.)
1:15 - 2:15PM (If 12:00PM class is full.)
2:30 - 3:30PM (If 1:15PM class is full.)
Participants will be assigned a class time upon enrolling.
Registration prior to day of class is recommended!

Hands-On Session
Paid directly to the Recreation Center:

$32 - Current Rec Center Members
$40 - All Other Texas Medical Center Institutions or UT System Alumni

Step 1: Visit https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartcode-bls to purchase + complete online training portion.
Step 2. Complete Registration Form, bring printed eLearning certificate + payment to the Rec Center to enroll for required hands-on session.
*******eLearning certificate must be submitted at time of hands-on registration.


Initial Consultation and Fitness Assessment (In-Person)

Identify strengths and opportunities in fitness and aide in setting attainable goals.

Includes:
Body Composition Analysis
Cardiovascular Endurance Test
Muscular Strength/Endurance Test
Flexibility Test
Body Fat Percentage

Your goals, fitness level, schedule and medical history are all vital.
As you progress, your Certified Personal Trainer will too.

Equipment Orientation (In-Person)

Gain confidence in the weight room and cardio area.
Learn equipment adjustments for proper biomechanics, safety and effectiveness.
Led by a Personal Trainer on a one-on-one or small group basis.
