Wellness

Wellness programs are designed to help UTHealth Houston students and current Rec Center members stay active, build healthy habits, and participate in fun fitness challenges throughout the year.

Programs may include fitness challenges, strength competitions, cardio-based events, wellness activities, and special Recreation Center events.

Program Details

  • 1,200 Point Challenge

    6 week, self—paced challenge to earn 1,200 points.

    1 minute of exercise = 1 point. Think you’ve got what it takes?

    Limited to 50 challengers. 

    All finishers earn a free T-shirt.

    Eligibility: UTHealth Houston students and current Rec Center members
    Challenge Dates: October 5 - November 15, 2026
    Progress Tracking: Minutes are due Mondays
    Status: Opens September 7 - October 4, 2026

    Entry Fee: 20 Non-Perishable Food Items To be donated for Thanksgiving to the Houston Food Bank

     

  • Bench Press Competition

    Test your strength in a one-rep max bench press competition.

    Multiple categories are available by weight and sex. A Personal Trainer will spot for safety.

    The first 50 competitors earn a free T-shirt.

    Stop by Anytime between 12:00—1:00PM or 5:00—7:00PM

    Eligibility: UTHealth Houston students and current Rec Center members
    Competition Dates: October 13 - October 14, 2026
    Status: Opens September 7 - October 12, 2026

    Entry Fee: Free

  • The Gauntlet

    Are you up to the challenge?

    Complete one round for time:

    • 2000-meter row
    • 50 push-ups
    • 50 burpees
    • 50 wall balls
    • 50 ab mat sit-ups

    Individual Men’s and Women’s Divisions available.

    The first 40 competitors earn a free T-shirt.

    Stop by Anytime between 12:00—1:00PM or 5:00—7:00PM

How to Participate

  1. Review current or upcoming Wellness programs.
  2. Check eligibility requirements.
  3. Register before the posted deadline.
  4. Complete the challenge or attend during the listed event window.
  5. Submit results or check in with Recreation Center staff when required.

Please note: Some Wellness events require pre-registration and may not allow walk-ins.


Who Can Participate?

Wellness programs are open to:

  • UTHealth Houston students
  • Current Rec Center members

Sponsored guests are not eligible to participate in Wellness programs unless otherwise noted.
