COVID-19 Update

As the novel coronavirus COVID-19 continues to spread in Houston and around the world, UTHealth is taking additional steps to protect our students, employees, and community.  As of Saturday, March 14th, the REC is closed until further notice.

RETURN OF THE REC: Update as of Tuesday, May 12, 2020

We miss you and wanted to give you an update since the recent Governor’s Executive Order stating the optional reopening of gyms on Monday, May 18th.

We understand while some are eager for the reopening of the Rec Center, the university has not made a date determination at this time.  The safety of our students, faculty and staff and the UTHealth community is our number one priority.  While the COVID-19 situation poses difficult challenges, our staff, in conjunction with EH&S has risen to that challenge.  We’ve always been committed to the health and safety of our members and will be taking extra measures to ensure your well-being.  It will take all of us to work together to get through these times and to follow best practices now and for continued safety.

During this closure our staff has remained safe while working remotely and when needed at work.  In addition, we’ve been able to complete some construction work and preventive maintenance projects to avoid impact or interruption to our customers upon return.  Before we reopen we will give you more details on what to expect, but you can expect some changes. To help us plan so we can better serve you, please click here to take our short survey.   Once finalized, all details on requirements and modified facility operations will be emailed to members and posted on our website: www.uth.tmc.edu/recreation-center.

We promise as soon as we have a decision on a reopening date, you will be notified.
