The Cryo-EM (cryogenic electron microscopy) Core Facility at UTHealth is a state-of-the-art resource in the heart of the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. Operated under the umbrella the Office of Research at UTHealth, the facility was established to serve the growing needs of researchers across the Houston area and nationwide who do not have adequate access to the latest Cryo-EM instrumentation and expertise. Recent advances in cryo-EM technology have transformed structural biology by enabling high-resolution imaging of biological macromolecules that are often inaccessible by traditional methods such as X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy. These breakthroughs have drawn a rapidly expanding community of investigators focused on understanding the molecular underpinnings of human disease.
The mission of the UTHealth Cryo-EM Core Facility is to provide researchers access to the state-of-the-art Cryo-EM resources and expertise. Our Cryo-EM Core has high-end Cryo-EM instrumentation for near-atomic resolution single particle analysis of molecular structures (SPA cryo-EM) as well as cellular structure determination by electron Cryo-tomograpthy (Cryo-ET). Our experienced Cryo-EM core staff can advise and assist at all stages of the Cryo-EM/ET pipeline from specimen optimization, grid preparation and screening, to high-resolution Cryo-EM/Cryo-ET data collection. Groups that anticipate high-usage of the Cryo-EM Core resources may consider having a user trained on the screening electron Cryo-microscope, which could save on costs for core staff time.

Training
The UTHealth Houston CryoEM facility encourages users to gain foundational knowledge essential for successful CryoEM studies. Customizable hands-on training that covers the full workflow, including instrument operation and data collection on both the Titan Krios G3 and TFS Glacios F30 microscopes is available to experienced users.
